We went on a self-drive safari adventure in Kruger National Park and it was EPIC! We had no idea just how much wildlife we would see, or how close we’d be to all the cute and dangerous animals of the savannah. We were so positively surprised by the experience and we highly recommend everyone to take such a trip at least once in their life! This video is a sort of photo collage giving you a sample of what you’ll see. You can also check out our blog, where we have a travel story about spotting our very first Cheetah… All by ourselves! You can read the full story here.
This is video footage from one of the most EPIC experiences we’ve EVER had! Kia piloted a plane (Cessna 172 Skyhawk) for the first time during our trip to New Zealand. She flew us over blue lakes, glaciers, and snow-covered peaks, culminating with a 360 degree turn around the majestic Mount Aspiring. As you can probably tell, it was AMAZING! Welcome aboard – Hope you enjoy the video. Oh, and you can read the full travel story behind the flight on the blog soon!
Cradle Mountain National Park (officially: Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park) was definitely one of the highlights of our Tasmania road trip. It’s an awesome place, packed to the brim with hiking opportunities and boasting an abundance of wildlife. In this video, we showcase a little bit of what the park has to offer, but you’ll have to visit in person to discover the whole package! Hope you enjoy the video. Afterward, you can head over to the blog area to start planning a trip of your own. We’ll help you have a great visit!
Bridestowe Lavender Estate was the first stop on our epic 2-week road trip in Tasmania. What a lovely place for a romantic stroll. We walked hand in hand between the endless rows of blooming lavender, and although Nick dropped his ice cream, it was a particularly joyful day. We don’t look half as glamorous as most of the Instagrammers flocking to this beautiful farm, but we enjoyed our visit nonetheless. Can you tell from the video?
We traveled around Tasmania for 2 weeks in a campervan. It was a fantastic trip. The highlight might just have been the wild beaches found all along the east coast, as well as on Bruny Island. The long beach walks, the beautiful sunrises, and the fresh ocean breeze really worked their magic on us. This video shows exactly what we’re talking about!
We visited Tasmania in February 2020, and it was FANTASTIC. We went on a proper 2-week road trip around the whole island, and it turned out to be the highlight of our trip to Australia. This short video is put together from our personal footage and will give you a good idea of the kind of scenery to expect.
It was our trip to South Africa that first inspired us to quit our jobs and travel full time. It’s a country of epic proportions, with wild, untamed, beauty waiting around every corner. You’ll find adventure without even looking for it, and come home a changed person. It’s the trip of a lifetime and it should be on anyone’s bucket list. Watch this photo compilation and we pretty much guarantee you’ll put it on yours too!
Considering going to Namibia but don’t quite know what to expect? Check out this little video showcasing some of our personal photographs. Remember to put on the sound, too! Namibia is one of the most beautiful countries we’ve ever visited, and running a travel blog, that says quite a lot! It’s the perfect road-trip country – safe, interesting, and mind-blowingly beautiful. You won’t be bored for a second! Just to let you know, the highlight of our trip was hiking up the massive, red, sand dune known as “Big Daddy”. Read the full story here Climbing Big Daddy: The Highlight of our Namibia Road Trip.
New York City! Its sheer size and the number of experiences on offer really makes us think of it as the capital of the world. And it might be our favorite city on the planet too. This is just a quick video showcasing what the place looks like (as if you didn’t already know). There are just so many things to see and do there we almost can’t get our arms down! You might already have read our story about the helicopter flight we took there, you know the one without doors? The photos we took on that trip are still, by far, our most popular on Pinterest. Read the story here if you missed it. We have just written a post about our 13 favorite things to see and do in the city as well. The heli flight takes the top spot, but there are 12 other great reasons why you should visit The Big Apple! Check it out here if you are considering to visit, and if you aren’t maybe it will convince you otherwise.
A LIFE OF ADVENTURE… That’s our personal dream and it’s what we want to help YOU achieve as well. We are Nick & Kia, self-diagnosed travel addicts and adventurers. If you didn’t know, we run a travel blog called The Danish Nomads. Check it out if you want a kick in the butt to travel more. Now is always the best time to go explore the world!
This video is purely meant as travel inspiration and motivation, but it’s actually also a personal 2019-recap. All clips are from our adventures throughout the year. Looking back at it, we can’t help but be inspired and motivated going into 2020. There are so many places on this beautiful planet that we have yet to see, and that’s just an incredibly exciting thought!
We’re not ashamed to say it: We underestimated the Tour du Mont Blanc trek. Prior to our hike in September 2019, we felt we were in relatively good shape. In the previous year alone, we had been on several trips to Nepal, including reaching +5,500 meters on the Everest Base Camp trek. We had conquered Rysy in the High Tatras (the highest peak in Poland) as well as traversed the Icelandic Highlands carrying heavy backpacks filled to the brim with food and equipment. Still, we weren’t prepared for the struggles of the Tour du Mont Blanc trail. In fact, it turned out to be the toughest hike of our lives. Of course, in the end, it was all worth it! This video tries to capture the mood of the trip, to give you a good feel for how it really was out there. Before we hiked the TMB we had only read overly positive stories about the experience, not much about the hardships. We try to paint a more nuanced (and realistic) picture. You can read much more about our experience here.
“You just about have time to enjoy the view. But before you manage to take it all in and realise what you are about to do, your pilot notices the wind is just right. He quickly straps you onto himself and the canopy and utters: “Run, run, run.” “Don’t sit down, don’t sit down.” “Keep running”… Of course, you obey. In fact, you run for dear life! An instant later, you are airborne. Surprisingly, it feels effortless. Smooth, like nothing you have ever experienced before! You glide through the air, lifted by your big blue canopy. You are suspended in your harness directly below it, by what looks like a million wires, but are sitting securely and comfortably. There are no sounds, except the gentle wind which adds a pleasant warm sensation to your face. For some reason, it isn’t cold today, even at 3,700 meters…” …Read the full story on the here.
Many people have “Fly in a Helicopter” on their bucket list. We definitely had! Our dream was to fly high above the Manhattan skyline, ideally on a day with clear blue skies and high visibility. Surely that was not too much to ask? Luckily, we were able to tick this adventure off on a beautiful spring morning in NYC. It was Nick’s 26th birthday no less. The experience isn’t exactly cheap, but forget that because it is SO worth it! This was one of the most epic adventures of our lives, and we would never be without it. Most tourists grab a quick 15-min heli ride from the harbour in Lower Manhattan. We had decided not to do like most other people. We specifically wanted to experience flying in a helicopter without big, bulky doors obstructing the view. And we wanted to get up close and personal with all the iconic buildings. The companies operating from the harbour, cannot (anymore) deliver on those requests. Nowadays, this is only allowed if your company operates out of a small private airport in Westchester, White Plains. Read the full story on the here.
You have probably heard about the legendary Yee Peng (or Yi Peng) Lantern Festival taking place each year in Northern Thailand. You know the one where thousands of lanterns are released into the night sky, and the locals take to the streets to celebrate with traditional live performances, fireworks, street food, and the whole charade. We visited Chiang Mai in November 2019 to experience this and, of course, we recorded a little video. We have also written a full blog post about the festival, talking more about where to be in Chiang Mai as well as the environmental impact of launching lanterns. You can find it right here.
1… 2… 3… and you are jumping out of a freaking aeroplane.
You are doing your best to keep your body in the shape of a banana, and your legs bent. It doesn’t really matter though, the instructor got you covered, and everything goes down so fast you don’t really realise what’s happening. For the first couple of seconds, you are just screaming until you can’t scream anymore, and then you start laughing. You can barely hear yourself screaming and laughing like a maniac because the wind is blowing around you with close to 200 km/h. That’s just about when the photoshoot over Dubai Marina and the Palm starts. All you need to worry about is enjoying the view, occasionally looking at the camera, smiling, and perhaps giving the thumbs up. In fact, you are still not realising that you just jumped out of a plane midair.

We visited the little charming French town of Chamonix in the late summer of 2019, as part of our Tour du Mont Blanc hike. We were originally planning to spend just the evening before the hike there, as well as a single day afterwards. However, circumstances led us to stay for a couple of extra days. We are glad that we did because it turns out Chamonix was a surprisingly pleasant area to explore.
When most people think about summer in France, the French Riviera springs to mind. Cannes, Nice or St. Tropez are extremely popular European holiday destinations, and for a good reason. We have ourselves visited the Cote d’Azur on several occasions, and Nick even lived there for a while. It really is lovely, and we don’t blame people for favouring the coast. That’s why we’ve written a full blog post about how best to enjoy a fantastic day trip to the Principality of Monaco!
However, recently, we have become aware of just how lovely the Alps are in the summer! Don’t just think about the coast, think about the mountains too. There are a ton of things to see and do up there in the Alps, and the natural landscape is breathtaking. Many people have gone skiing in the Alps during winter, but you really should think about the summer season too. Don’t believe us after watching this film? Well, then we hope written words may do the trick. Check out our full guide to Chamonix right here. It goes through all the best things to see and do, as well as give you all our personal tips and tricks for your own visit. It’s as close to a complete guide as you can realistically get, without creating a full-blown guidebook. You may need to research specific activities in more detail, but it should provide a good foundation for you to start planning your own epic visit!
This video was filmed during our week-long visit to the High Tatras of Slovakia. We went on a few day hikes there and just soaked up the mountain views. You may not be familiar with the High Tatras of Slovakia or their most famous mountain called Rysy. We ourselves weren’t just a few months prior to going. However, having had an awesome time there, we now feel obliged to acquaint you with this beautiful mountain range and their most iconic peak.
The High Tatras are located in Tatra National Park, right on the border between Poland and Slovakia. It is a great place for skiing in the winter and an even better place for hiking in the summer.
The first part of the video is filmed during our hike up Rysy – the tallest mountain in Poland. That’s pretty cool, right? There’s not a whole lot of countries in which we have reached the absolute highest point. We guarantee that when you stand up there on the summit, that fact will help the climb feel like one hell of an achievement (did we say climb? oops, we meant hike. sort of). You can climb up from either side of the border, but we chose Slovakia. We have, of course, written a blog post about the hike to help you beat the mountain and stay safe at the same time.
The second part is filmed during a day hike in a national park nearby called Slovak Paradise. Here you are hiking through a gorge, with the help of iron steps, ladders and chains. You pass several waterfalls on the way and will have a hard time keeping your feet dry. It was an amazing adventure that we highly recommend. Read all about it here.
We hiked the legendary Everest Base Camp trek in Nepal! Maybe you should do the same? It really is as awesome as people say. It’s a long hike, but anybody can do it, and the rewards once you get above 5,000 metres are utterly unreal. You’ll be above the cloud cover and so there are surprisingly often plenty of sunlight and clear skies. The views of the snow-capped mountains can’t be described with words. Neither can the crystal-clear view of the Milkyway in the night sky – which lights up the surrounding mountains like a Christmas tree.
It is something which must be experienced in person. Let us know if you need any help in planning – we would be happy to give you our best tips and tricks! Sooner or later we will write a blog post about the whole thing, but until then, throw us a comment on Facebook or Instagram.
This video aims to show how lovely Denmark is during the summer. You should definitely visit! However, we are, of course, a bit biased when it comes to our home country. It makes sense for you to think that we are just publishing this overly positive video because we are Danes ourselves. If you do, make sure to watch it. If it doesn’t trigger some sort of wanderlust for this little Scandinavian gem of a country, we honestly don’t know what will. In that case, you should probably just stay away.
We specifically want to highlight the summer season. It is most Danes’ favourite time of the year, and it’s definitely ours! The country really comes alive with happy people in the streets, at the beach, in the parks and pretty much all around. You may think that all these people will make Denmark feel overcrowded – but no – the opposite is actually true. More people liven the place up, and it’s great! The atmosphere skyrockets and you’ll be hard-pressed to walk around without a smile on your face. We know because each summer we always try to spend some time back home with family and friends. Take this from the locals: Summer is the best time of the year in Denmark!
That Denmark is the perfect summer destination is especially true if you travel beyond the capital of Copenhagen! The vast beaches and the lush countryside are adorable! If you don’t believe us, check out the 49 handpicked pictures from our latest trip below.
We certainly hope you enjoy what you see. If everything goes right, our video will inspire you to explore Denmark for yourself next summer. Need a little help in planning exactly what to see? No worries, The Danish Nomads have got you covered. To get you started on the planning, we have prepared a short itinerary for one of the Danes’ most loved holiday destinations of the entire country. Here we refer to a place known as:
This would be a perfect place to include on your Denmark itinerary. Start there, and then google your way around the nearby area of Northern Jutland. You can also check out the official tourism board, called VisitNordjylland, which highlights some truly remarkable places.
If you have read the post but still need some more advice, feel free to give us a shout through social media. We want your trip to be unforgettable and for you to fall in love with our cute little Kingdom of Denmark.
We went on an epic 7-day road trip around Iceland and made this little video of the whole thing. If it doesn’t make you want to visit Iceland in a campervan, we don’t know what will!
Iceland is an epic destination. Few places on Planet Earth boasts the same variety of breath-taking landscapes and awesome activities. You have exploding geysers, active volcanoes, immense glaciers, bright blue ice caves, black sand beaches, iceberg-filled lagoons, an excellent chance of seeing whales, tölt riding Icelandic horses, soothing hot springs, vast lava fields, countless waterfalls and beautiful rainbow-coloured mountains! There is a good reason they filmed so much of Game of Thrones here and why they call it The Land of Fire and Ice.
It may sound incredible, but all this can actually be experienced in just a single week! Of course, the longer time you have in Iceland, the better. We were there for two weeks and could easily have doubled that. The first week we spent driving around the famous ring road that surrounds the island. The second week we spent hiking, deep in the magical highlands. If you are into hiking, we highly recommend the epic trek that we went on. National Geographic went as far as to call it one of the most beautiful hikes in the world. We have written a very detailed post about our personal experiences on the 4-day Laugavegur trail, which you can read right here.
Spoiler alert: It was AMAZING.
For your first time visit to Iceland, the best way to experience the country is by driving and sleeping in a camper van. At least that is our opinion. This will allow you to get a good feeling for the island, seeing the biggest variety of sights. We did precisely that during the summer of 2019, and we had the trip of a lifetime. In this post, we share our full 7-day itinerary for visiting all the top sights, as well as go through our best tips and tricks for each place. We aim to give you all the info, in just one location. Read on and start planning your own legendary road-trip now!
We made a short travel video from our epic 4-day Laugavegur hike deep in the Icelandic Highlands. We hope it might motivate some of you guys to put on your hiking boots as well!
If you long for awe-inspiring landscapes, enjoy immersing yourself in breath-taking nature and are curious to experience how it might feel to walk on another planet, then the Icelandic Highlands are perfect for you. Here you can really get your adventure and hiking-lust satisfied. There’s boiling water and smoke coming out of the ground itself, massive glaciers, rainbow-coloured mountains, incredible views and ever-changing weather. This is nature when it is best – in its raw and untouched form!
We hiked the EPIC 4-day Laugavegur Trail in the magical highlands of Iceland, and even although we have long-since travelled on, we still can’t get our arms down. This experience was truly legendary and we’ll never forget it! Don’t you want that for yourself as well?
We are here to help! We have written an extensive guide to the trail that includes everything you need to know before planning and embarking upon your own adventure. Check it out here. Why wait?
The Laugavegur Trail, and all the day hike detours, must be experienced by yourself. However, we thought an inspirational video would serve as a good motivator to kickstart things. While we were up there anyway, we also drove around the entire island in our campervan. Read all about that experience here.
The Principality of Monaco. Home of the famed Casino de Monte Carlo and Hotel de Paris. What else? Fast cars, celebrities, yachts, and billionaires. Known for the annual Formula 1 Grand Prix, James Bond, and its lenient tax regulations, Monaco has it all.
We made a short video about Monaco to give you a feel of what you can expect if you decide to visit!
Contrary to popular belief, Monaco is for everybody. You do not need to be rich and famous to enjoy everything this tiny country has to offer. Yes, prices are generally higher than in Nice or Cannes, but not outrageously so. Even the famous Casino de Monte Carlo is affordable. So don’t be afraid of coming for a visit – however, your bank account will probably not like you for taking a weeklong vacation here. The good news is you won’t have to.
You can absolutely explore Monaco in a single day – and we are here to tell you how. It’s a great day trip from Nice or Cannes, but if your base is further out, you may need more time. Most people reading this post will be based in Nice and will be looking to spend a single day in Monaco. This is a good idea, and throughout this post, we will presume that’s what you are doing. Cannes is only 30 minutes from Nice though so you can definitely go from there as well.
We might as well say this right away: Tuscany is AMAZING. Everywhere you look there are stunning vistas of vineyards, fields, mountains, forests, sun and clear blue skies. It surpassed our expectations by miles! And the food! Don’t even get us started. We’ve had the most amazing pasta of our lives. And the wine! Just as good of course.
However, our favourite activity in Tuscany was our first-ever flight in a hot air balloon. We had always dreamt of flying in a hot air balloon, far above a stunning landscape, and become utterly speechless from the serenity, calmness and awe-inspiring natural beauty of Planet Earth. Is that also on your bucket list? If not, it should be!
Read more about our magical hot air balloon ride over the rolling hills of Tuscany.
This video shows the ultimate highlight of our Jordan trip! Spoiler alert: It’s a water hike in Wadi Mudjib. Actually, it is really called a Siq hike, which basically means “Gorge Hike”. Since the gorge was filled with water “water hike” just makes more sense.
Regardless of what you want to call it, it was unbelievable, and SO MUCH FUN! You definitely have to do this if you ever come to Jordan. Check out the video and see if it sparks your interest.
We were very impressed by this water hike, in stark contrast to our experience at the world-famous mountain city of Petra. We were actually very disappointed about that Wonder of the World. We were so disappointed that we decided to write a full blog post about it.
Fast cars. Luxury living. Skyscrapers. Deserts. Sun guarantee. Beaches. Arabic culture. Fast-paced. Modern. Not to mention all the world records this country holds! There are some good points there, which might have you considering the United Arab Emirates as a possible future holiday destination?
If you are not entirely sure you want to drop by the UAE, perhaps our little video here will help you decide. It showcases what your holiday might look like if you choose to go play in the giant sandbox!
After living and working in the UAE for more than two years, we have, of course, learned a thing or two about the country. Sharing this knowledge with you should ensure you get an excellent trip! And hopefully don’t fall into too many tourist traps, unless you want to. Our goal is to give you an overview of what you can expect, what you can’t miss, as well as the best (and worst) times of the year to visit.
Read the complete guide to the UAE here.
